Ed Smalley

Ed began his career upon graduation from The University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, in 1975. He taught agriculture for 3 years after graduation before entering an agribusiness venture with Ralston Purina by opening a feed store in his hometown of Salem, Illinois, in 1978, where he still resides.

Over the past 4 decades, Ed has been active in production agriculture by operating his own grain farming operation at Salem. He also has had had various off-farm experiences that are being utilized to assist farmers in all phases of operations and succession planning for their individual farming operations when asked to do so. These experiences include specialty crops production, financial services with The New York Life, farm insurance placement with American Family Insurance Co, crop production advisement with Growmark FS and real estate management and utilization. Other experiences include construction, ownership and operations of an assisted living facility and a daycare center.

Ed will be utilizing his recruitment skills from his former experiences to focus on the Century Match and leasing programs of Next Gen Ag as well as working with farmers on estate planning and farm transition through Farm Financial Strategies. Ed will serve the Illinois geography of I-70 to Cairo.
